Youngsters in Oxfordshire will be able to find out more about the conservation behind shoot management at a special BASC event on 27 August 2008.

The event near Great Milton will teach young people about habitat management on shoots. They will have a tour of the shoot followed by the chance to get involved with practical activities, including a look at the wildlife of the River Thame, pruning and clearance of part of the woodland and air rifle shooting with a discussion on their role in pest control.

Jenni Thompson, BASC’s regional officer for the south east, said: “This project has been in the pipeline for sometime and I have been working closely with BASC members in the area to organise this and I am very much looking forward to getting local young people involved so they can get a feel for the importance of looking after the environment around us.”
