Steve Blackwell from Lancashire and his springer spaniel Tyke won this year’s BASC Chudleys scurry league final at the Midland Game Fair.
A scurry is a timed retrieve for gundogs and handlers. This year’s competition has proved the most popular so far with more than 1,500 entrants taking part in 89 qualifying scurries at 11 game fairs across the country. One hundred and nine people gained points in the league with the top 20 competing at Weston Park.

Emma Hewson came second in the final with her dog Murphy, David Ross was third with Jack and Kevin Warburton took fourth place with KD.
All 20 finalists were presented with an embroidered gundog training vest and hat, a Chudleys lead and a specially made thumb-stick.
The top four received Chudleys dog food vouchers, Tuffies dog beds and covers, Lite Launcher gundog training equipment and engraved glassware. Mr Blackwell also received a Lintran dog box.

We saw some really good gundog work and handling throughout the competition and our thanks go to our main sponsor Chudleys and also to Lintran, Tuffies, Lite Launcher, Bob Jones and to all of our volunteers who help us run the competition.”
