Taste-of-Game-LogoTASTE of Game, sponsors of the Speciality Meat Pie section of the British Pie Awards, were delighted that Sussex-based Mud Foods won their class with their game pie.

Plenty Pastry and Mad About Pies, both from Gloucestershire, were highly commended with their venison and game creations.

The overall class was a huge success with more than 50 entries – including crocodile, black pudding and goat.

Nice Pie, from Leicestershire, were awarded a gold medal with their delicious rabbit and madeira pie, as were The Bell Hotel, from Buckinghamshire, with their venison creation.

Annette Cole, Taste of Game manager, said: “We were delighted to see the number of game pies entered and to see a game pie win. Adding value to game is something we are encouraging as it gives people more choice when eating game.

“We will be asking everyone to enter their speciality meat pies next year as all pies have a chance of winning and the publicity is great for the business and for game.”

Silver awards were presented to 16 pies – including game, wild duck, wild boar, crocodile, venison and goat. Bronze awards were given to 15.
