votePOLITICIANS and election candidates have received almost 40,000 emails from British shooters using BASC’s unique campaign websites.

The sites enable the lobbying of MEPs, Police and Crime Commissioner candidates and those standing in devolved elections for Northern Ireland, Wales and Scotland.

More than 31,000 emails have been sent to Britain’s 73 MEPs requesting their views on European Commission proposals to amend the Firearms Directive.

Police and Crime Commissioner candidates have received over 3,000 emails ahead of elections next week in 41 police force areas in England and Wales, excluding London.

More than 4,000 direct contacts have been made by email with candidates for the devolved elections which also take place next Thursday.

BASC has collated responses on its website allowing all voters to stay informed on how representatives and candidates stand on issues which directly affect shooting.

Christopher Graffius, BASC’s director of communications, said: “Those who shoot care deeply about their sport and where candidates stand on shooting will be a key factor in how they cast their votes.

“Members of shooting organisations attending meetings with MEPs to discuss attempts to amend the European firearms directive have been told they have received many emails on the subject. PCC candidates have phoned BASC to say they have been ‘swamped’ by emails.

“BASC uses technology to defend shooting. The websites help to inform and lobby candidates. If those who care about shooting haven’t used it, I recommend that they do.”

The PCC and devolved election websites can be accessed here. The website to lobby MEPs can be found here.
