BASC’s political team this week met with Rob Holt, Wales Deputy Director of Tourism Development, to discuss the importance of shooting tourism in the country.

The meeting was to highlight the importance of shooting in Wales and the potential of promoting Welsh country sports. As an example, BASC referenced the work done with other organisations in Scotland with the Scottish Country Sports Tourism Group.

BASC stressed Wales could be losing a total £30 million investment in its rural economy by not promoting shooting tourism. BASC suggested the Welsh government could commission independent research into the benefits of shooting on the economy and rural communities.

BASC is now pulling together a proposal to put to Welsh ministers to replicate the Scottish Country Sports Tourism Group.

BASC will be looking to work with other country sports organisations – such as anglers and equestrians – to ensure Wales sees the full benefit of advocating sustainable country sports.
