BASC has written to the Daily Telegraph over their article that simplified the findings of a BASC and Natural England review into the ecological impacts of gamebird release.

The ecological effects of gamebird release are complex, BASC is working collaboratively to move the discussion forward.

In the letter, BASC says: “Through best practice the positive effects of gamebird releasing can be increased and the negative effects can be decreased. This is the real conclusion of the Natural England and British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC) review into the topic (Game shooting industry hit with both barrels over environment – 22nd August). Identifying the missing gaps of information and ensuring shooting leaves an overall net positive mark on the countryside shows the UK’s largest shooting organisation leading from the front foot.”
