The NRW consultation has now closed

Thank you to the tens-of-thousands of you who responded to the consultation and made shooting’s voice heard. You can read a full run-down of BASC’s Act Now campaign in our latest blog, here.

What was it all about?

On 27 March, Natural Resources Wales launched a 12-week consultation on proposals to introduce a licensing system for the release of pheasants and red-legged partridge in Wales.

What’s BASC’s position?

BASC is opposed to the proposed licensing of gamebird releasing in Wales because there is sufficient regulation in place.

If the proposals are implemented, gamebird releasing will be restricted and only allowed under licence, giving an anti-shooting Welsh Government the power to shut down game shooting in Wales.

What can I do to help?

Each of us must act now – even if we don’t live in Wales, or even shoot there. The rural community must make its voice heard.

To say no to the proposals please spare two minutes to complete an online survey here on the Natural Resources Wales website.

Quick guide to the survey

Q1: Give your name. Q2: Give your email address (optional). Q3: Ignore. Q4: Say no, because that is a ban on gamebird releasing. Qs 5-8 Say no, because these are leading questions. Qs 9-12: you can skip these questions, unless you have comments to make on whether the proposals could in any way affect opportunities for people to use the Welsh language.

What happens next?

What happens in Wales today could happen anywhere else tomorrow. This is a clear attack on shooting. The antis are already mobilising for a massive response. But our community is a million strong – and we must each play our part.

Don’t let your silence be the opposition’s best weapon. Please do your bit and help Welsh shooters.
