We are once again looking for Young Shots who are passionate about shooting and conservation and would like to write, make videos and take photos to help us promote shooting to future generations. You are best placed to talk to people your age.
If you’re thinking about a career in journalism or a similar field, Young Shots Journalists will be a great way of improving your skills and gaining essential knowledge about writing and taking photographs and video. So, get involved and share your experiences with other Young Shots. We will offer you free entry to Young Shots events in 2020 and all you need to do in return is write about how much fun you had.
Each winner will receive a handy Young Shots Journalist pack, a Young Shots Journalist badge and all the support from BASC teams you might need. We can even arrange a visit to BASC head office.
The competition will be re-run every year, so we can encourage more youngsters to participate and keep the ideas fresh – last year’s winners are more than welcome to reapply!
For 2020, we are looking for four enthusiastic individuals to take this challenge on. We want them to provide diverse content for the Young Shots website (a good mix of photos, text and videos is essential).
For a whole year, you will become a reporter, finding and researching interesting subjects, writing about them, taking photographs and recording videos. If you really want to do it, and think you will be able to prepare one of the above every month, please apply.
We have secured some amazing opportunities for our new journalists for 2020. The below companies will take each young journalist for an experience day. Those will wary from a day at a show or a tour around the premises to product reviews or similar.
This will be a great opportunity for all young journalists to see what being a journalist looks like. You will be asked to write about your experience, take photos and short videos where applicable. We can promise you that you will have a great time.
You have a number of options:
Deadline for the 2020 competition is Monday 9 September, so you have plenty of time over the summer holidays to work on your submission.
If you provide more than one of the above, even better! This will show us that you are comfortable with submitting varied content.
Once you’re ready, send your work to youngshots@basc.org.uk with the subject line ‘BASC Young Shots Journalists’. Please include a photo of yourself and a short biography with your entry, outlining why you want to become a Young Shots Journalist, your hobbies and what you hope to gain from taking part in the project. Remember to provide all your details (full name, age, address, phone number).
Winners’ biographies will go into the November/December issue of the magazine. All your entries, subject to editorial decision, will be used on the website. Some of your entries might also be used for S&C, BASC Films or social media.
Good luck everyone; we hope to see many amazing entries again this year.
In the meantime, if you need any help or advice from us, contact Marta Jacyna (marta.jacyna@basc.org.uk) or Hannah Davies (hannah.davies@basc.org.uk).
We will be more than happy to give you some tips.
*We will ask you to provide written consents with your submission. If you’re not sure what such a form should look like, please get in touch in advance and we will provide it.
