The Wildlife Habitat Trust is welcoming the fact that some clubs are repaying their land purchase loans early so they can continue to help other wildfowlers buy land.
The WHT has received many more loan applications since BASC employed full-time rural land development manager, Paul Williamson, who offers advice to wildfowling clubs on how to raise money to buy land to protect their sport and how to get the best cash return from the land once it has been acquired.
The Kent Wildfowling & Conservation Association (KWCA) has already offered to repay its WHT loan early. Thanks to a land sale, the KWCA was able to pay back its loan in the second year of a five-year term. This made economic sense for the club, and added to the amount of money available for loans to other wildfowling clubs.
The WHT welcomes applications from clubs intent on buying land to secure the future of their sport. If clubs are able to repay loans early, this is seen as an extra bonus and is seen as a way of bringing money back into circulation more quickly.
To date the WHT has assisted with the purchase of over 2,500 acres of land, with a total purchase value of over £1,500,000.
