ALDI has confirmed to BASC that it has asked Ethical Consumer to remove the supermarket’s logo from its website.

While the supermarket has said it does not participate in corporate grouse shooting, it added that this position does not mean it endorses any wider anti-shooting campaigns.

Ethical Consumer has been using ALDI’s logo on its website for the last two weeks, but the supermarket has requested it be taken down.

Other major companies – including Waitrose, Premier Inn, Costa Coffee, Next, Allianz, Legal & General and Thomson Holidays – have previously told BASC that their positions had been misrepresented by Ethical Consumer, which has been running a campaign against grouse shooting.

BASC chairman Peter Glenser said: “It is important to the integrity of the consumer relationship that the position of leading high street companies should not be misrepresented. Many customers of the companies originally named will shoot or have family and friends who shoot.

“BASC has challenged the fake news and will continue to work hard to represent the interest of those who shoot.”
