As part of a week-long series of shooting features on BBC’s Radio 4’s Farming Today programme, BASC this morning highlighted the significant conservation and economic benefits brought about by shooting.
Caroline Bedell, executive director of conservation at BASC, further talked of the importance of balance within the many discussions revolving around shooting. For example, on moorland burning the answer should neither be a free-for-all nor a full ban, but a myriad of options depending on the habitat and known science.
She said:
“We are always, as an organisation, willing to sit down and talk to people… …so we can find the solutions.”
Caroline went on to query the economic value of alternative land uses, called for by anti-shooting groups, as unratified and potentially damaging for our uplands.
