Sporting shooters, who are currently claiming Jobseekers’ Allowance, will be able to save some money when they join BASC or renew their membership after 1 March 2009.

The new Jobseekers’ Concession membership fee will mean that full members will only have to pay £29 for 2009/10. The holders of joint memberships will be charged £44 (being a £29 Jobseekers’ Concession plus £15 for the second joint member); families will be charged £79 being £44 for the adults and £35 for all their children under 18.  These rates will only apply if members can demonstrate current entitlement to Jobseekers’ Allowance.

BASC chief executive, John Swift, said: “BASC recognises that while the UK economy is in recession some of its members may find themselves in special financial need after losing their jobs. We have been listening to what our members are telling us and believe introducing this concession may go a little way in helping members who are currently out of work.”
