Almost a quarter of visitors to The Game Fair last weekend were BASC members or guests according to official figures.

Around 27,000 members took advantage of the complimentary admission offer over the three days at Ragley Hall as the showcase event bounced back after being cancelled in 2020 due to Covid.

Steve Bloomfield, BASC’s executive director of operations, said: “This was an incredible turn out under the circumstances and showed the willingness of the rural community to try to get back to normal life after a difficult year and a half.

“The show was an out-and-out success and the feedback from members and the wider shooting community was superb.”

Included in the official figures were 30 parliamentarians invited by BASC, including Defra and Shadow Defra ministers and the Minister for Sport, Tourism and Culture.

Jak Abrahams, BASC’s political affair manager, said: “MPs and Lords came to celebrate the countryside and learn about the vital work that BASC and other have been doing to promote sustainability, conservation and the sound management of the countryside.

“We think it was the biggest attendance by parliamentarians in the history of the event.”
