BASC-2014BASC has welcomed Moray Council’s decision to refer back to the Local Nature Reserve Management Committee (LNR) on the future of wildfowling on Findhorn Bay.

There have been concerns regarding the number and behaviour of wildfowlers on the Bay, with protestors calling for a complete ban.

The council had previously attempted to mediate with two individual petitioners. However, this was done without consultation of the relevant stakeholders and produced outcomes which were unacceptable to BASC, who sit on the LNR.

Dr Colin Shedden, BASC’s Scotland director, said: “The LNR was created to deal with these issues and is made up of local councillors, the local wildfowling club, BASC and other conservation and wildlife interests who are best placed to deal with this matter.

“We look forward to working with all parties to find a workable solution and to facilitate the introduction of a permit scheme at the earliest possible opportunity.”
