Dr Al Gabriel was elected onto the BASC Council, and Professor Ann Mortimer and Oliver McCullough have been re-elected.
The results of the council election were announced at BASC’s virtual AGM on Saturday (11th July).
Dr Al Gabriel from Northumberland is a molecular biologist holding a PhD in genetics. A former Territorial Army soldier he is an avid deerstalker, game shooter and ardent advocate for diversity and equality in our sector.
Dr Gabriel, said: “I am delighted to be given the opportunity to serve on BASC’s Council. I am extremely excited to get started immediately with promoting diversity and protecting the future of shooting.”
Professor Ann Mortimer has served on the BASC Council since 2015
Oliver McCullough retained his Northern Ireland seat which he has held since 2015.
Following the AGM, the Council announced that Sir Geoffrey Clifton-Brown MP has been elected BASC Vice-President.
Sir Geoffrey Clifton-Brown MP, said: “I am very honoured to have been elected a Vice President at the BASC AGM. As an MP who chairs the All Party Parliamentary Group on Shooting and Conservation, with a rural seat and as a keen shot, I regard it as a key part of my duties to work with my colleagues to represent shooting in politics. I have played a large role in this over my 28 years as a Member of Parliament.
We face an unprecedent number of challenges to shooting, not least to firearms licensing, pest control and releasing gamebirds. In addition I have been working on a major initiative to supply Government institutions with gamebirds. Initial results are promising and it could have a massive effect on increasing the market for game.
“The united support of BASC members and other organisations helps those MPs and Peers who support shooting and conservation to make its voice heard in Westminster and Whitehall.”
