BASC welcomes new firearms fees

The UK’s largest shooting organisation, the British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC), has welcomed a firearms licensing fees order which has today been laid before Parliament. The order contains Government proposals to increase the fee for the grant of a shotgun certificate from £50 to £79.50 with proportionate increases in other fees. The order will bring the new fees into effect from April 6 2015.

Firearms fees must be evidence-based

Firearms licensing fees must be set on the basis of sound evidence and due process in line with the principles of better regulation and Treasury guidelines according to the UK’s largest shooting organisation, the British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC).
Shadow Home Secretary Yvette Cooper has suggested that an increase in fees could “help to save” the jobs of one thousand police officers.
