Steve Blackwell from Lancashire and his springer spaniel Tyke won this year’s BASC Chudleys scurry league final at the Midland Game Fair. This year’s competition has proved the most popular so far with more than 1,500 entrants taking part in 89 qualifying scurries at 11 game fairs across the country. One hundred and nine people gained points in the league with the top 20 competing at Weston Park.
BASC is reviewing proposals to exclude dogs at certain times from land owned or managed by Coleraine Borough Council in Northern Ireland.

The Scottish Government is consulting on the introduction of compulsory microchipping of all dogs in Scotland. The consultation also seeks views on the re-introduction of a dog licensing system and the muzzling of all dogs when in public places. Lastly, suggestions are invited on legislative or other measures that might reduce dog fouling.

The deadline is approaching for entry into the BASC gamekeepers’ classes at Crufts 2014. Owners of working gundogs need to register by the 6th January 2014.
A gundog evening with expert speakers providing guidance on the health and well-being of gundogs will be held at Stockbury village hall, Stockbury, near Sittingbourne, Kent on the 7th December 2013.
