A gamekeeper and his dog from Wellington in Somerset have taken the top honours in the gamekeepers? classes at Crufts 2010. Melvyn Hobbs and his English Springer Spaniel Whitebrook Lord of the Rings, also known as Moley, won the Northesk memorial trophy.
Dog lovers will be able to see working dogs in action at this year?s Crufts competition.
A campaign to support British game rearers has been launched by the UK?s largest shooting organisation, the British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC). It aims to encourage all gamekeepers, shoot owners and shoot managers to source their eggs and young birds from local producers who use traditional methods and high welfare standards.

Shooting restrictions put in place in Scotland and Northern Ireland because of the recent severe winter weather are to be lifted. A legal suspension of the shooting of waterfowl in Scotland will be lifted at midnight on Monday 18th January, allowing shooting on Tuesday 19th. A similar suspension in Northern Ireland will end at 8am on Thursday 21st January.
BASC is calling for voluntary restraint to be maintained where local conditions merit it across England and Wales for the shooting of ducks, geese, wading birds, coot and moorhen because of the winter weather. Shooting of waterfowl has been legally suspended in Scotland and Northern Ireland.
