The House of Commons came out on top at this year’s Lords vs Commons clay shoot, beating the House of Lords by 10 points. The House of Commons team scored a total of 271 points, topping the Lords’ tally of 261. It was a long-awaited victory for the Commons, who were beaten by the Lords in 2007, 2008 and 2009. High gun was Lord Dear with a score of 45 points. Commons captain Bill Wiggin MP was his team’s best shot, with 43 points.
The event, which was held at the West London Shooting School on 22nd October, was organised by BASC and sponsored by Nick James at Pol Roger and William Evans gunsmiths. The competition comprised of six individual stands of ten simulated game targets followed by a team flush.
BASC’s political officer Sam Edwards said: “The day went extremely well and it was a lot of fun. It was a long awaited victory for the Commons. The instruction was absolutely outstanding and we were very well looked after by all at the West London Shooting School."
Guns enjoyed a game lunch. The guest speaker during lunch was Mark Elliott, from Help for Heroes. Mr Elliott, who is also founder of the National Organisation of Beaters and Pickers Up, talked about how Help for Heroes started, how it has progressed and what he hopes for the future. The Commons team was made up of Bill Wiggin MP, Graham Brady MP, Geoffrey Clifton-Brown MP, Edward Garnier MP, Richard Graham MP and Andrew Robathan MP. The Lords team was made up of Lord Crathorne (captain), Lord Bridgeman, Lord Brougham and Vaux, Baroness Buscombe, Lord Dear and Lord Redesdale.
