Correction – insurance for beaters

insurance-for-beaters

A paragraph on page 70 of the March/April issue of Shooting and Conservation magazine has caused some confusion among members regarding insurance for beaters, specifically while said beaters are attending a shoot that is not run as a business.

To clarify, in such instances:

  • BASC membership insurance covers beaters and any other shoot helpers – regardless of whether they are paid or working on a voluntary basis – that a BASC member has engaged to help them during a recreational shoot, if they suffer an injury in such a manner as could be attributed to the negligence of the member.
  • This cover is a benefit offered by all membership categories where activity is undertaken in a recreational capacity.

For more comprehensive cover for their beaters, a shoot may prefer to join BASC as an affiliated shoot. One of the advantages of affiliation is that beaters or shoot helpers will be working on behalf of the shoot and not an individual.

Beaters can also benefit from taking out their own BASC membership; our gundog membership provides insurance for non-shooting activities such as beating, picking-up, working and training gundogs, plus two beaters’ days per year.

BASC is a trading name for The British Association for Shooting and Conservation Limited which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) under firm reference number 311937.
