BASC teamed up with Kids Country this weekend to give 120 Cubs and Scouts an unforgettable experience of the countryside and conservation.

The Cubs and Scouts Day took place at the East of England Showground on 26 March. Partnering BASC’s eastern regional team to deliver the day was Kids Countrythe not-for-profit educational arm of the East of England Agricultural Society.

The Cubs and Scouts Day welcomed packs from across Cambridgeshire, Lincolnshire and Rutland to take part in a range of activities to help them work towards their activity badges.

The day featured nature trails, plus airgun shooting and safety. BASC staff were also on hand to teach the children to prepare a woodpigeon for the table and help them brush up on their bushcraft.

Also taking part in the day was local MP Alicia Kearns, who joined the Cubs and Scouts in testing out her own woodpigeon preparation and bushcraft skills.

Reflecting on the day, Alicia spoke to the Peterborough Telegraph on how she “saw first-hand how much the children enjoyed our countryside and learning about how it can be conserved for many more generations to come.”

With a full programme of events this year, local education initiative Kids Country offers opportunities to help primary school children learn about food, farming and conservation of the countryside.

The Kids Country and BASC Cubs and Scouts event is part of the BASC to School campaign which throughout 2022 will see tens of thousands of children provided with the opportunity to learn about the countryside, land management and the importance of shooting to rural life and conservation.
