Dozens of bags of plastic and non-recyclable rubbish were picked by 36 weather-hardened wildfowlers and friends during the third annual ‘Wildfowlers’ Lindisfarne NNR Plastic Pick’.

More than 30 bags of rubbish were picked over a couple of hours at the end of February, with the more eclectic items collected including fish boxes and a child’s garden slide.

The end of season plastic pick, organised jointly by the local wildfowlers, the British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC) and the site managers Natural England, allow the wildfowlers to give back to the nature reserve and a good excuse for a day out.

The litter pick supports the ongoing series of litter collection events held throughout the year at Lindisfarne National Nature Reserve.

Litter pickers and bags were provided by Lindisfarne National Nature Reserve manager Andrew Craggs and wildfowling warden Collin Teago.

Shane Robinson, BASC wildfowling officer, said: “BASC is fully supportive of these incredible individual efforts, that collectively leave the environment in a far healthier condition. Full marks to the wildfowlers and friends who came from across the country and braved the snow showers and gales.”
