Pairs Gundog Test rules
- The object of the test is for everyone to enjoy themselves.
- All gundog breeds or recognised crosses may compete but please note the exercises are based upon retrieving.
- Dogs do not need to be Kennel Club registered. This event carries no qualifications for Kennel Club events or records.
- A Pair must consist of two handlers and two dogs (of any recognised gundog breed).
- A common system of scoring will be used and points will be awarded for each exercise successfully completed and the dog at the end of the day with the most points will win. There will be no joint placing. In the event of dogs being tied a run-off may be used to determine placing.
- The tests will try to simulate situations encountered on a typical shooting day. The judges will do their best to ensure everyone has, as far as possible, an even and fair chance.
- Judges will look for the dog which fulfils its role best in their view.
- Dogs must be steady to shot and fall and must be sent, retrieve and complete exercises as directed only when instructed by the judges.
- As on a shoot day dogs may be required to walk steadily at heel, sit quietly at a drive, all off lead, cross obstacles, work in water and cover.
- Serious faults include refusing to retrieve, noise (squeaking or barking etc.), being out of control, changing retrieve, not entering water, not completing the exercise as directed by the judges. These faults will result in points being deducted.
- The judge’s decision in relation to all matters regarding the tests and dog’s work is final. As this is a fun inclusive competition any unsportsmanlike behaviour may result in the run being void and the Pair being disqualified.
- In relation to all other matters the senior BASC member of staff on duty will, having consulted with the Judges, be the final arbiter on the day.
- The organisers have the power to exclude dogs from competing and have the right to refuse entry.
- The organisers have the right to restrict numbers in a test where there is over subscription, in this case, the runners will be decided upon by a draw.
- Dogs of an aggressive nature will be excluded.
- No dog shall wear a collar.
- No person shall carry out any correction or handling which is deemed harsh by either judge or organiser.
- Anyone knowing of their dogs being in contact with infectious diseases must not attend the test. Bitches in season will not be allowed to participate in the competition.
- Handlers are requested to ‘clean up’ behind their dog.
