Fifty people were able to try a taste of game at a special dinner held at an Oxfordshire brewery last week.
The event, organised by the British Association for Shooting and Conservation and Hook Norton Brewery, included a brewery tour as well as learning about preparing game for the table from Sainsbury’s Julien Pursglove.
The menu prepared by Jill Knowles included Jugged Hare, seared pheasant breast on a bed lentilles verte, Duck terrine, seared Venison, roasted partridge with celeriac remoulade and pigeon breast with black pudding. All the food was complemented by one of Hook Norton’s famous brews including Double Barrelled, the beer created to commemorate BASC’s centennial year.
BASC’s regional officer for the south east, Jenni Thompson, said: “The venue is fantastic and together with the food and beer made for a fun evening out. I very much hope that all who attended will have been inspired to experiment more in the kitchen with game cookery, or even support local businesses such as The Red Lion at Steeple Aston who regularly include game on the menu”.
