There will be an international flavour to this year’s BASC Northern Ireland Game Fair at Ballywalter Park on 2-3 May.
Teams of riders from four countries – Scotland, Southern Ireland, Northern Ireland and Denmark – will compete in a Mounted Games event as part of their build up to the World Championships in August.
Mounted Games is an equestrian discipline where riders and their ponies compete in very fast relay races. The riders require a high degree of athletic ability, good riding skills, hand-to-eye coordination, determination and a competitive spirit.
Amanda McCallion from BASC Northern Ireland said: “We are delighted that these teams will be competing at Ballywalter this year. The Danish team visited the fair last year and were so impressed with their reception that they immediately booked their place for this year. We believe that the four teams will bring a new international dimension to the game fair.”
Alderman Jim Shannon MLA said “This is certainly a prestigious event and with such an international flavour we will be attracting visitors from around the world which can only be good news for the Province. The fair at Ballywalter is always one of the biggest country sports events in the Province and this will only enhance what is already a tremendous weekend of fun.”
