Natural England has taken over the responsibility for the administration of general licences for pest bird species from Defra. Licences remain much the same as in 2007 but two new licences have also been created.

BASC’s land management policy officer, Dr Conor O’Gorman said: “Whilst there are no significant changes from the 2007 licences, there have been minor changes in wording. I recommend that authorised persons take account of the specific terms and conditions and guidance notes for each licence being utilised”.

The 2008 general licences are available to download from Natural England’s website at www.naturalengland.org.uk.

BASC also provides an information sheet and an overview of general licensing throughout the UK – for further information click here.
