Here is a story that really tugs on one’s heart strings…
Seven-year-old James, who has autism and struggles with loud noises and getting his hands dirty, recently asked his dad, Richard, if he could come with him on his syndicate shoot. After a lengthy discussion between mum and dad, it was finally agreed that James would be kitted out with full waterproofs, gloves and ear defenders and allowed to join dad.
James’ dad was amazed how well his son coped on the day. James retrieved a duck from the dog’s mouth, fell over a few times, got muddy and just kept saying: “I’m okay daddy.” Since that first day, he has not missed a single shoot day and loves being out in all weathers.
James’s dad said: “He is an inspiration to us all; it’s like he isn’t in his autism bubble when he comes out shooting. Everybody has been amazed how James has progressed, and it goes to show our sport has no boundaries… I am so proud of him.”
