The following letter was printed in the Times on 10 April. BASC is lobbying hard for Scottish sporting businesses to be incorporated into the much-needed grants.
SPORTING OVERSIGHTS
Sir, The Scottish government’s decision to allocate a solitary £25,000 grant for retail, hospitality and leisure businesses with multiple properties (“Pressure over business grant backtrack rises”, Scots edition, Apr 10) is not its only major oversight. Sporting businesses, which bring people to Scotland for the purpose of leisure, have been excluded from applying for this much-needed grant. They have also been excluded from applying for the smaller £10,000 small business support grant. The net impact of these oversights constitutes a fundamental lack of support for Scottish sporting businesses which are often the backbone of the rural economy. The Scottish government must urgently rectify these issues.
