Alfie, now three, was on his first shoot at just five months old. Grandad had him in a sling while mum and dad shot.

Alfie now helps rearing all of the poults over the summer on our local village shoot.

Nowadays, Alfie can be found on the beating line with his flag or carrying the birds to be counted at the end of the day.

He has already earned the name of ‘third keeper’.
