Wild Boar Certificate

Aim

This BASC course is designed for the sportsman or woman as part of their ongoing commitment to humane and responsible hunting of wild boar.  The training will cover best practice and hunting methods.  Although the course is UK based, it does cover some European practices to help prepare hunters travelling to Europe to hunt wild boar.  The training will prepare the candidate to undertake the DMQ wild boar qualification assessments at the end of the course.

If bringing your own rifle, it must be a .270/.30 or 7mm calibre or above.  Ammunition should be factory produced (no home loaded ammunition).  Rifles will be provided for those who do not own one.  You should be able to consistently hit a 4” target at 100 metres and shoot laying down, kneeling and off sticks for the shooting element of the examinations.  Wild boar course places are allocated on a ‘first come first served’ basis.

The training assessment areas will include: Ecology and social structure, safety and legal liabilities, diseases, shooting techniques, ballistics and calibres, taking the shot, reactions and follow up, shooting accurately at static target, and Humane despatch shot at 10m at static target.  More information on assessments can be found at https://www.dmq.org.uk/wild-boar/
