Are you able to assist BASC in the South East with a new ‘Green Shoots” project on the North Kent marshes?
BASC members will be aware of the extensive contribution that shooting makes in helping to conserve the flora and fauna within our countryside. “Green Shoots” is BASC’s biodiversity action plan which encourages members to work alongside other organisations in helping to deliver conservation objectives. By working in partnership on important wildlife programmes, BASC can use these examples when speaking with politicians, and decision makers, thus giving independent validity to the important message of “shooting and conservation”.
Earlier in the year South East regional officer, Justin Clarke met with the Kent Wildlife Trust regarding a water vole recovery project on the North Kent marshes. The work focuses on mink control and they have invited BASC to assist with monitoring, survey work and trapping. The area concerned is split into three zones and stretches from the Isle of Sheppey crossing to the West, stopping just short of Whitstable to the East, with the A2 forming the Southerly boundary.
We are now looking for volunteers that are willing to represent BASC in assisting with this new initiative. At this stage, we are looking to collate a list of members who would be interested in participating. Once this has been done a meeting will then be arranged between BASC volunteers and KWT.
