In what BASC describes as a ‘positive step’, Natural Resources Wales (NRW) has rejected Wild Justice’s pre-action request to revoke the general licences in Wales. In a letter to interested parties, NRW has confirmed its belief that the general licences reissued on 1 January 2020 are lawful.

Steve Griffiths, BASC Wales director, said: “NRW’s commitment to the current set of general licences provides users with the confidence and security that they are undertaking essential pest control legally.

“The decision to move forward with the Judicial Review resides with Wild Justice, but it is a positive step seeing a government agency standing up against Wild Justice’s disruptive tactics.”

In the letter NRW stated that it remains “committed to reviewing its approach to wild bird control licensing in 2020 and this work will continue”.
