A new three year shooting lease for wildfowling in South Yorkshire has been secured with help from the UK’s largest shooting organisation, the British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC).
South Yorkshire Wildfowlers’ Association successfully applied for a new sporting rights lease on approximately 59 acres (24 hectares) of Crown Estate foreshore on the River Aire. The BASC-affiliated club was set up over 50 years ago.
Mark Greenhough, BASC’s wildfowling officer, said: “In just over a year we have seen more than 30,000 acres of foreshore added through consents and leases by individual clubs around the country. We are pleased to have been able to help the South Yorkshire Wildfowlers’ Association add to their shooting ground.”
David Hartley, chairman of the South Yorkshire Wildfowlers’ Association, said: "We are delighted to acquire this new lease, it brings exciting new prospects for our club. We have worked closely with BASC and enjoyed superb support leading us through the process to get the lease. As a local, friendly and forward-looking club, this is a key step forward for us and we are already looking at other opportunities with BASC support. It is exciting times for us and our membership is already enjoying good sport, good wildfowling and good company with the help of BASC."
