windsor castleWINDSOR’S head gamekeeper will be the special guest at a BASC Young Shots introductory day at the Great Park next month.

Peter Clayton, who has earned the Royal Victorian Medal for his work at Balmoral and Windsor in the last 34 years, will open the event with a short welcome talk.

The day continues with youngsters trying clay pigeon shooting and air rifle shooting under the guidance of expert BASC coaches. There will also be gundog handling sessions, wild food preparation advice and a pigeon-plucking competition.

The day, run by BASC’s South East England team, is open to all 10-18-year-olds and is designed to provide an introduction to a variety of country sports and pursuits.

BASC regional officer Justin Clarke said: “It’s a fantastic honour to have an input from such a long-serving and important member of the Windsor gamekeeping team. Peter will provide a marvellous insight and it’s a day not to be missed for those relatively new to shooting or those who want to try shooting for the first time.”

The cost of the event on June 1 is £25 per person and includes all tuition, clays and cartridges. Lunch is not included. To secure a limited place call 01306 631378 or click here to find more information and to download a booking form.
